After being picked up at your La Fortuna hotel, drive to Rio Balsa for this rafting tour. First, receive safety training and be outfitted with a paddle, life vest, and helmet. Plus, you’ll be shown paddling techniques and basic rafting tips. Then, head out on the river for the 6-mile (10-kilometer) trip through the rapids. Be prepared to get wet while your guide helps you navigate Class III rapids during the first half of the ride, which is the most challenging.
Once you clear this section of the rapids, stop along the river for a snack. Following that, climb back into the raft and head toward Class II rapids. Along the way, view the tropical rainforest landscape and possibly spot wildlife like monkeys, sloths, and birds. Also, a photographer will be on hand during the tour to snap pics, so you won’t need to worry about getting your camera wet; the photos will be available for purchase at the end of the tour. After rafting, head to a local restaurant for lunch. Plus, you can shower and change before the return to your La Fortuna hotel.
