The Metro's stunning stations were intended by Stalin to be "palaces for the people." Thousands of tons of marble, granite and limestone were used to face the walls, and sculptures, mosaics and chandeliers were commissioned from leading artists. You will be shown a few stations and take a short ride on the train. A peek at St. Petersburg's markets and food stores provides an intriguing insight into local life. Many locals shop in the food markets, which sell fruit, vegetables, fresh meat and fish, delicious homemade cottage cheese and wonderful natural honey.After the visit to the market, stop for souvenir shopping and then head off for vodka tasting. You will be treated to a variety of such vodkas together with classical vodkas and traditional Russian condiments served to complement this famous Russian drink. After the vodka sampling, return to the ship.
