The name "Quijadas" refers to the maxillary bone. If you look at the map of these sierras, you will see that their shape looks like an animal maxillary bone.
Among the species in this dry arid area there are pumas, wildcats, grey foxes, maras, small fowl, American ostriches, grey falcons, vultures and lizards.
