They are believed to guard the temple from bad influences. Uluwatu temple is unique sight. The more so while you see the Kecak Dance, performed by about 50 singer. Matter of fact, this dance is the only one based on vocals rather than instrument. This performance is quoted from the epic of the Ramayana emphasizing the teaching of loyalty of a housewife who is represented by Dewi Shinta.
