Why take this tour?

The Nakasendo is one of the five ancient highways that were built by Edo Government about 400 years ago. It connected Tokyo and Kyoto. Villages called post towns sprung up along the route as places for travelers to stop to eat, restock, and stay overnight. On this one-day tour you will visit two of these post towns: Magome and Tsumago. Both have retained the atmosphere of the Edo Period, due to conscientious efforts by locals and officials to preserve their special wood and plaster architecture, wood craftsmanship, traditions, and food. Struggle no longer with the train timetables and local buses which don’t run often, with your own knowledgeable tour guide taxi driver who will both show you around the area and provide easy point to point travelling. Our driver will assist you on planning your day at these two sites so you can make the most of your time.
