It is a wetland ecosystem that is dominated by mangrove trees. Conservation areas are urgently needed in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia which is very short of open green land, has a high level of air pollution and has begun to experience erosion and abrasion of coastlines.
Mangrove forests, in addition to being able to reduce large waves including tsunamis, can also absorb carbon dioxide 5x more than tropical forests in the highlands. And last but not least is its function as a habitat and shade for several species of wildlife.
