Start your full-day combo tour at San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf, where you’ll meet your guide and small group for the drive to Sonoma Valley. Board your minibus and head north across the Golden Gate Bridge, listening to a brief overview of the day’s itinerary. You’ll stop at a vista point for photo ops of the shimmering — or fog-shrouded — bridge, city skyline and Marin Headlands.
On arrival at the picturesque hilltop location of Cline Cellars, a winery established by Sonoma’s Sebastiani family, enjoy a tasting of wines such as chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon and sangiovese. Continue up the road to the Homewood Winery for your second tasting.
Sample varietals like malbec, pinot noir or perhaps a sparkling rosé at this unpretentious venue; perhaps enjoy some bocce ball in the large outdoor space, located in the heart of the Carneros region.
Return to Fisherman’s Wharf, where your guide leaves you with your ticket to Alcatraz. You have about two hours of free time to spend on lunch and independent sightseeing (own expense) before checking in at Pier 33 and boarding the public Alcatraz ferry — just a 20-minute walk or a quick pedicab ride away.
View the Golden Gate Bridge and city skyline from the water during the scenic ferry crossing over San Francisco Bay to Alcatraz Island. On arrival, slip on a provided headset for an independent audio tour of the notorious penitentiary. Hear award-winning commentary from former inmates and prison guards as you learn about life inside the cell block.
Most visitors spend about two hours at Alcatraz, but you can take the ferry back to Pier 33 when you’re ready.
