Awful, do not bother going
Having seen over 100 Broadway shows, this play is in the top 3 worst ever. The cast voices were very weak and could barely be heard or understood over the loud music. The original music was unimpressive. Overall a sad day for Broadway if this play won a Tony.
The experience was not good at all, even though the play was good. Who is in charge of the venue and ushers?
The actual play was good, however the experience was terrible. First off, for the first half of the play, the venue was freezing. I am not kidding. For some reason they had the AC on blasting cold. There were so many patrons that immediately went and purchased whatever they could to try to warm up (maybe that is the strategy). They did get it address with about 20 minutes to go (again, no kidding.) Secondly, there was a guest directly behind us that was coughing is a gross way for about 45 minutes and causing a distraction first, but probably a health situation too. It was so bad that everyone around us was wondering when an usher or someone was going to do something. But no one did. It had to be distracting for the folks doing the play as well. I just can't believe that a Broadway Play wouldn't have the professionalism to do something. We should have asked for our money back, but hopefully we can make a difference for the next folks.
A must see show!
I was not prepared for the emotional ride that this show took me on. It was incredible from start to finish. We sat about 8 rows back and in the middle. It was perfect. It looks like from other reviews, you do not want to be in the front row. The cast is so incredibly talented with their acting and singing.
It's not up there with the great musicals.
I know this won a lot of awards and people love it. I didn't. I love musicals, but this was so predictable and seemed contrived. I felt I heard all the words before and the story was like a bad imitation of West Side story. I know it's supposed to be about teens but I never felt real sympathy for them. Maybe for the older brother but, again, predictable and contrived. You can guess what happens most of the way through. The voices were very good and so was the dancing, but I was wishing it was over long before the final curtain. I did enjoy MJ the Musical and anything Andrew Lloyd Weber. I didn't love this one. The ticket was a gift and I appreciate the thought, but for those looking for a musical experience for a lot of money, this isn't it.
Incredible show!
Incredible show! The acting, theatrics, stage, music, etc. was all way above expectations. We sat in the second balcony towards the bottom and seats were spectacular.
