The Harpers Ferry Campground offers tent campsites exclusively for tents, set in a stunning and distinctive location. Despite being a mixed-use site, with amenities like cabins, RV spots, and deluxe tent sites, the focus remains on traditional camping experiences. Visitors can enjoy the thrill of the last zip-line in the Aerial Adventure Park, which passes over some accommodation areas. Additionally, the campground provides a convenient 1.5-mile walking and biking trail leading directly to Harpers Ferry town. Water enthusiasts can indulge in canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding with on-site rentals available. Situated just an hour away from Washington, DC, and Baltimore Metro Regions, it offers easy access to urban areas while immersing guests in nature. With a boat ramp for river access and proximity to an active railroad and a tunnel, the campground promises both adventure and tranquility.

Where are we located?
River Riders is only 1 ½ hours drive time from downtown Baltimore, MD or Washington DC. Located in Harpers Ferry, WV on the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers. We offer rafting, tubing, kayaking, biking, canoeing, an aerial adventure park, and zip line canopy tour, All closer than you think.
What is the weather policy?
All trips go out rain or shine. We reserve the right to relocate or change raft size, number of customers per raft, and length of trips due to abnormal river flow and conditions.
What are the minimum Ages/weight requirements* *Age and weight requirements can vary for water activities, depending on water levels. Please call for details.
Guided White Water Rafting: around 6 years and 50 lbs (we do have an alternate route for families with kids weighing between 30-49 pounds, call for details)
Guided White Water Kayaking: around 12 years old and maximum of 250 pounds
Unguided White Water Tubing: 5 feet tall and 10-12 years of age, in good physical condition, and great swimmers
Unguided Flat Water Tubing: 30 pounds and about 4 years of age
Canoeing: 30 pounds and about 4 years of age
Kayaking and Stand Up Paddle Boarding: 30 pounds and about 10 years of age
Zipline Canopy Tour: about 5 years old and between 40-250 pounds
Aerial Adventure Park: 7 years old for most park elements and between 40-265 pounds
Kids Course including the Chicken Little Zipline: 4-6 years old and 40-60 pounds
Mega Zipline: 60-250 pounds
Please be advised that we do not recommend sending individuals out on any of our unguided water trips alone. We request there be a minimum of two guests per group for these trips. Age & weight requirements for water activities may change due to water levels. Please call if you are not sure.
Are pets allowed? Can I bring my dog? Can I bring my Emotional Support Animal?
River Riders is pet/support animal friendly and welcomes guests to bring well behaved dogs with them on the Potomac Play Pass activity. Guests must drive themselves to the launch point with their pet which is only 2 miles from the main office check-in location. We always recommend that pet owners bring a PFD “life jacket” for their pets. River Riders also has a kennel rental option for those wanting to board their pet during their trip.
Will there be food? Can we bring food?
River Riders has 3 onsite food options available seasonally. We have a full service bar and restaurant called the Alstadts Ale House, Quick Service Two River Tacos, and the Harpers Ferry Ice Cream Shop. If you have a group, the River Riders Chef can provide full service catering and event facilities. Guests can also bring their own food to take on their trip or eat onsite afterwards. We do not allow outside catering without prior written agreement or approval.
