After early pickup at your Kandy hotel, set off by private, climate-controlled vehicle with your personal driver-guide.
Leave town and stop at the wooden Embekke Temple, built in 1371 by King Wickrama Bahu III. Admire the intricately carved pillars, roof, and walls, and hear about the temple’s history before heading to the hilltop temple of Gadaladeniya, another early 14th-century place of worship.
See the main and four satellite stupas and view the large Buddha statue and murals as your guide uncovers their past. Next, visit Lankatilaka Temple, a grandiose palace-like complex laced with artwork. Admire its elaborate design and wall paintings before continuing to Degaldoruwa, a magnificent cave temple coated in colorful Kandyan murals.
Following lunch (own expense) at a restaurant of your choice in Kandy, visit the beautiful UNESCO-listed Temple of the Sacred Tooth. This former royal palace houses a sacred tooth relic of Buddha, and consists of ornate white, gold-trimmed, and wooden shrines.
After admiring this richly ornamented complex, choose to end your tour with a hotel drop-off, or continue to a gem museum.
See Sri Lanka's precious gemstones being crafted and polished and perhaps purchase souvenirs (own expense) before your tour finishes with a drop-off at your hotel.
