Tondaya is a traditional Kyoto machiya house, which was registered as National Cultural heritage in 1999 and also enlisted as Structure of Landscape Importance in Kyoto in 2007. We originally started Kimono wholesale business 130 years ago, but currently, we operate Nishijin Lifestyle Museum to promote the education of traditional Kyoto lifestyle culture here in Tondaya. You can have a great experience of Japanese traditional culture, such as Kimono dressings, tea ceremony., and Machiya tour in this precious space nourished in the history of Kyoto.

Mineko Tanaka is the present owner of this house, 13th generation .she has been cherishing the traditions.Tondaya has 3storehouses ,2 wells,and 6 gardens. Please come and see the Hoh-stage in a special room to entertain guests and the traditional tea ceremony room Rakujyu,named by the 12th generation head of Mushanokoji Senke.Rakujyu means enjoyment and congraturation. Please visit us to see real authentic Machiya House and Machiya Lifestyle!!
