Keep walking to more Salzburg highlights, including the Prince-Bishops’ Palace and St. Peter’s Abbey, a Benedictine monastery that was founded in 696. If desired, you can pause for a bite to eat in the St. Peter Skiftskeller Restaurant—it’s the oldest restaurant in Salzburg, and the perfect place to try some traditional Austrian foods (both Mozart and Christopher Columbus are said to have eaten here). The next stop is the Salzburg Fortress, which you’ll reach by a tram and funicular, which lead to a sweeping view of the historic city. Take some time to stroll the fortress walls, then descend into the old city for an hour-long cruise on the Salzach River. This 4-hour Salzburg tour concludes in the heart of the old city.
