Summary

Your tour begins with a hotel pickup from your Ko Olina resort, before heading out to Barber’s Point to meet your instructor. You’ll be matched with the proper board for your height and will start your lesson in the sand, where you’ll learn the proper methods for paddling and standing up on your board. When you’re ready to get out and ride the waves, your instructor will help you with paddling out and finding the best place to sit, and will even offer a gentle push to help get you into the waves. Since the lesson on the sand only takes a few minutes, you’ll have lots of time to spend in the water and practice riding the waves, and you might be surprised how quickly you catch on to this ancient Hawaiian sport.

Want to learn how to surf? There’s no better place to start than Hawaii, where the art of surfing has been cultivated for centuries. Get a fun-filled introduction with this 2-hour lesson at Barbers Point, a beach on the west side of Oahu that has good waves and no crowds. Your expert instructor shows you the basics to get you up on the board and catching waves. Choose a private one-on-one lesson or a small-group lesson with no more than four people per instructor.
