Spring & Autumn Tour: Dolphin Watching

Highlights

  • We will sail in the Gulf of Alghero to go in search of dolphins. Thanks to the presence on board of the scientists of MareTerra Onlus our sighting percentage is higher than 80%, a very high probability for such elusive animals. Spotted the dolphins, we will approach in compliance with the code of conduct adopted to minimize the disturbance caused by our presence and to be able to continue observing their natural behavior. We will tell you about the biology and behavior of dolphins. Thanks to the photo-identification technique, you will be able to know many more details about their life (who they are, how old they are, how they are). You will be able to see with your own eyes how dolphins are studied and if possible, listen to them live thanks to the hydrophone (underwater microphone) that MareTerra scientists use to study the sounds they emit to communicate. In the second part of the excursion you will admire one of the most beautiful coasts of Sardinia, within the crystal clear waters of the Capo Caccia-Isola Piana Marine Protected Area. During the return to port you will taste an aperitif of cheeses and cold cuts at zero km, accompanied by a glass of fresh Vermentino wine.

Why take this tour?

Live a day as a researcher with the MareTerra Onlus scientists. You will be able to satisfy all your curiosity about dolphins and observe researchers while collecting scientific data to study the population of bottlenose dolphins in the Gulf of Alghero. Discover the stories of some of the most famous dolphins like Suzeo, Taz or Shark Junior. Our excursions are inspired by the principles of ecotourism and we do our utmost to make our activities at sea sustainable: - We keep navigation speed low to reduce fuel usage and CO2 production. - The engines of the boats are of the latest generation and have been silenced to reduce the emission of noise under water. - We adopt the ACCOBAMS international code of conduct for approaching dolphins and whales, minimizing disturbance. - We never use non-recyclable materials for our aperitifs on board. - We offer a zero km aperitif to support the local economy.
