In the morning, your guide picks you up at your Seoul hotel and takes you to one of Seoul's fantastic Korean spas — or jjimjilbang — for your spa treatment.
The seshin (cleansing) process starts with a dip in a hot bath followed by a hands-on treatment by an experienced practitioner on staff. Feel renewed from the inside out during the sauna experience, which begins with a vigorous scrub. The ddemiri, or ‘scrub mistress,’ applies a thin, coarse towel to your skin and sloughs off layers of dead skin from your entire body, leaving your skin fresh and soft. Follow this rejuvenating process with an oil massage, cucumber face mask and shampoo.
The public indoor bathhouse is separated by gender, so you’ll find most everyone — with the exception of your guide, who waits outside — comfortably nude in the showers, pools, and sauna.
After this ritual, meet your guide for the drive back to your hotel, making a brief stop at an amethyst factory or a ginseng center for a close look at Korea’s most famous goods.
