Snaefellsnes Peninsula Private

Summary

Meet a driver at your hotel in Reykjavik for an 8:30am departure, then begin the 92-mile (149-km) trip to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula in a Jeep with a private driver/guide. On the trip to Snaefellsnes, and throughout the day, take advantage of your time with a private guide to stop as often as you want, pausing to stretch your legs, take photographs, and explore. The first highlight of the day is the Snaefellsjokull National Park & Glacier, where you’ll find an ice cap that tops a 700,000-year-old stratovolcano, fringed by a number of smaller peaks. From there, continue to Búðakirkja Church, a black church in a field of lava rocks, which is a popular place for Icelandic weddings. Drive along the southern coast of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula to see Arnarstapi, a traditional fishing village that was once an important trading port (during summer months, you’ll have the option to hike to the next stop, the basalt formations at Hellnar). Keep going to the western edge of the peninsula to explore Djupalon Bay, where black pebble beaches feature a series of rock protrusions—and four big stones that were once used to test local fisherman. The final stop is Kirkjufell, a beautifully symmetrical mountain peak that’s a popular destination for photographers. At the end of your day on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, begin the return trip to Reykjavik, where this tour concludes.
