As you start your kayak adventure, paddle across the lake’s clear waters into the Okarito Kiwi Sanctuary—home to untouched rain forest dating back millions of years.With your guide to lead the way, admire fine views over the kahikatea trees to the Southern Alps and glaciers beyond, and gain insight into the region’s fascinating geology. Identify calls of native birds such as the kiwi and the rowi—one of the rarest bird species in New Zealand. All equipment is included on this tour, so you stay warm and dry throughout. When your paddle comes to an end, collect your high-quality digital photos taken from the water before returning to Franz Josef.
