Small Group Hiking on Mount Attavyros

11 km of walking and 700m of elevation gain. At 1215 meters, Attavyros is the highest mountain on the island. The starting point is the small town of Embona located at its feet. The mountain boasts of important flora and fauna that place it in the network of "NATURA 2000". Important species of flora are the rare and protected Paeonia Rhodia and various kinds of orchids. On its slopes there is a large forest of pure cypresses, declared a Monument of Nature. Important species of fauna are the fallow deer (dama dama), which is also a symbol of the island, and the Rhodes badger. There are also foxes, hares, hedgehogs and numerous birds of prey including partridges. On the top of the mountain are the remains of the Temple of Zeus and a recently built military observatory. On days when there is no humidity, Karpathos and other small islands of the Dodecanese are visible, as well as the hinterland of Rhodes. If you aim for the highest peak, this is “your” Hiking
