The ruins of Muyil, an ancient Maya trading port on the Mexican Caribbean, are part of Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve, the region’s largest protected area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. During this in-depth guided tour, you’ll explore both nature and culture, making time for both centuries-old artifacts and a nature-filled cruise across a lagoon.

Departing from Tulum, you’ll get a firsthand peek at world-famous Maya temples, such as the 57-foot (17-meter) building known as El Castillo. Admire the diverse, semi-deciduous forest of Sian Ka’an, which makes for an incredible backdrop to the ruins.

Once you’ve explored the site, you’ll follow a lush jungle trail through the reserve to Muyil lagoon. Board a boat and glide across the crystal-clear water along a canal that has been in use for centuries and which leads into the Caribbean Sea. Listen to different birdsongs as you admire the spectacular wetlands, where you’ll see exotic vegetation, such as mangroves, orchids, and cacti.
