Why take this tour?

Our guided intermediate hike, Shoshi Trekking, developed and organised by Yared Tour & Travel, takes you completely off-the-beaten path with the Hamar community, one of 16 distinct tribal communities in the Lower Omo Valley. Shoshi which means ‘guest’ in Hamar language is the heart and spirit of the experience. Along the trail, you are invited into villages and family homes for the chance to immerse in genuine Hamar hospitality and to learn about how the community live together close to nature in the same way they have for centuries. Shoshi trekking seeks to distribute the benefits of tourism to more remote Hamar communities pledging that 70% of money will go direct to Hamar families. The full-board, small group trek best suits adventurous and socially conscious travellers who don’t want the usual tourist experience but value the chance to connect with local people, delve deeper into rural tribal culture, and are more than happy to hike for the privilege.
