Make your own way from the Santorini port to Fira, and meet your private guide by the summit of the cable car. Your first stop is the island’s caldera, which was created when a volcano erupted in ancient times.
Strike a pose against the caldera’s edge and soak up the views as you walk around. Then, if the weather works in your favor, visit a nearby volcanic beach, known as Perissa. The sweeping stretch of black sand is the island’s longest beach, and it makes a pleasant place to enjoy a break. Or, if beaches aren’t your thing, arrange with your guide to do something else instead.
In the afternoon, travel to Profitis Ilias, the tallest mountain on the island. Visit the Monastery of Profitis Ilias, and sample some of the olive oil, honey and dessert wine — all created by the resident monks.
Continue to a volcanic wine estate for a tasting session, and sip up to four different varietals of the island’s wine. Learn about wine production in Santorini’s dry climate, and hear about the local assyrtiko grape that helps produce the distinctive light white wine of the area.
Before your return to Fira, make one last stop in Oia. The famous village is known for its pretty whitewashed houses, and for its sweeping views across the Aegean. Enjoy a stroll with your guide, and then make the most of some free time to explore. Your tour then finishes with a drop-off in Fira.
