Amazing sights, terrible tour...
I really dislike leaving negative reviews, but in this case I can't see any alternative. The sites themselves are incredible and an absolute must-see. However our guide was truly hopeless and ruined the experience completely. They did not know anything about the sites, at all, and spent the entire time trying to make small talk in very poor English. Whenever we tried to help with some basic Spanish, the guide laughed and told us we should learn Quechuan.... Basically, the guide seemed to want to be the centre of attention for the trip, rather than the Inca ruins themselves, and this was very irritating. Whenever we tried to look at the sites themselves, ask a question or walk around to see more, the guide immediately brought us back to repeat the same two or three points again and again and again. We did not have the opportunity to walk around Sacsayhuaman for more than a few minutes. The complete trip took around 3h, which is about right, but most of that time was spent standing in one spot, often looking away from the ruins, listening to the same basic points repeated on loop and being actively prevented from walking around and admiring the sites. If we were a big group I could appreciate that keeping people together is important, but there were only two of us, we were interested and we wanted to walk around.... For a hundred dollar tour, it was incredibly disappointing and we would genuinely have been better off getting a taxi. At least then we could have spent some time alone, admiring the ruins.
Fantastic Historic Cusco Tour
This is a fantastic tour! My guide, Henry, was extremely kind, patient and knowledgeable. The views and sites were breathtaking.
Bad Guide
The guide was always in a big hurry to get back to the bus so I didn’t really have much time at the Sacsayhuaman temple this was contrary to the advertised plan. He was always right in front of you and I didn’t come to see him. I had to reprimand him for coughing right in my face
