As a settlement, Tsaghkadzor is known from ancient times. In Armenian Tsaghkadzor means “the valley of flowers," and the name Tsaghkadzor is associated with the Tsaghkuniats Mountains. In early medieval times it was used as a hunting ground for the Armenian Arshakuni Kings.
