After dinnertime, be ready for pickup at your hotel in Kingscote or American River. Climb in to a 4-wheel-drive vehicle, which allows easy access to the rugged terrain of Kangaroo Island, reaching places that traditional tour vehicles can't.
As you head out into the dark, listen to your guide's commentary on the biology and behavior of the island's animals that are most active after dark. The drop in temperature and light after dark signals to many of these creatures that it's safe to come out; keep your eye out for Western grey kangaroos grazing in the open grasslands and wallabies coming out from the cover of small shrubs. Your guide helps you spot even more elusive creatures, such as echidna, stone curlews, boobook owls, or even penguins in their land burrows.
End the tour with drop-off at your hotel.
