The incredible Yangmingshan National Park lies within Taipei city's limits and takes only an hour to reach by private transportation.

Upon arrival at the park, hike to the first stop at Qingtiangang, a lava terrace formed when the lava from Mt. Zhugao (竹篙山) flowed North after its eruption.

The area was once used as pasture for grazing cattle during the Japanese colonial period. Today, one can still find a few cattle chewing the grass on the massive green grassland.

Next, head to Xiaoyoukeng by taking shuttle bus, situated about 805 meters above sea level.

This is one of the best places to feel post-volcanic activity under the feet.

Stop for photos, smell the sense of sulfur, and see fumaroles, sulfur crystals, hot springs and spectacular 'landslide terrain' in the region.

Enjoy views of the entire mountainous landscape nearby, including the highest peak of Taipei, Mt. Cising (七星山) .

Return to Taipei City.
