After meeting your guide in Byron Bay, get outfitted with a paddle, safety vest, and a two-person sea kayak that’s designed for ease and stability. Then, following your guide, head out into Cape Byron Marine Park.
As you paddle, see the historic Cape Byron Light—Australia’s most powerful lighthouse—and learn about the area’s cultural and Aboriginal history from your guide. Navigate toward the local pod of more than 300 dolphins that inhabit the area, and enjoy an amazingly up-close experience with these smart, playful marine mammals in their natural habitat. Spot other marine life such as sea turtles and migrating humpback whales (which appear from May to November) as well.
Before returning to Byron Bay, stop at a lovely beach for tea with light snacks. Note that on the off-chance that you don’t encounter any dolphins, you can take the tour again on another day free of charge.
