Enjoy convenient pickup from your hotel lobby, where you'll board a comfortable, climate-controlled tour vehicle. Settle in for the short trip to Higuey, Punta Cana's nearest urban neighbor. On the way there, get views of life in rural Dominican countryside.
Upon arrival in the historic city of Higuey, head for the town's two most impressive churches. The Basilica of La Altagracia (The Basílica Catedral Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia) was built in the 1950s in honor of the patroness saint of the Dominican Republic. Admire the ancient San Dionicio Church (Santuario San Dionisio), dating from 1512, then visit a handicraft shop to peruse the locally made souvenirs.
Please note: Long pants, long skirts and long-sleeved shirts are mandatory to enter the cathedral.
Travel into the city's surrounding countryside to see a typical Dominican house, as well as coffee and cocoa plantations. Learn how the well-known Dominican coffee is made and get the opportunity to taste exotic tropical fruits, chocolate and coffee made in the area.
At the end of your half-day tour, return to Punta Cana for hotel drop-off.
