Receive a pickup from your Cusco accommodations around 2:15am, traveling for 3 hours to reach the trailhead for your hike. Fuel up with an included hot breakfast before setting off. The total hike up “Ausangate” will take between 3 and 4 hours based on your fitness level.
Begin your hike by traveling through a verdant valley, catching glimpses of the Rainbow Mountain off in the distance. As you walk, you’re also likely to encounter Andean locals, offering a peek at typical daily life. The closer you get to Ausangate, you’ll start to see evidence of the colored minerals that give this area its unexpected visual effect. Listen as your guide explains details behind the geology of the area for further context.
Make one final push to reach the summit of your target peak, using words of encouragement from your guide to fuel your ascent. From the top you’ll have time for some celebratory snacks, plus panoramic views of the surrounding area. After a hour break, head back down to the trailhead, continuing for 2.5 to 3 hours on the return trip.
Enjoy an included lunch at the trailhead prepared by the trip’s private chef before transferring back to Cusco, arriving at your hotel around 7pm.
