Begin with pickup at your hotel, then travel to the Old City of Cairo to start a walking tour of the historic neighborhood. Enter the city walls through Bab al Futuh, one of the three surviving gates—the stone gate was completed in 1067, complete with holes for pouring boiling oil on attackers.
Make your first stop at Khan el-Khalili bazaar, one of the oldest and largest markets in Cairo. This is the perfect time to shop for souvenirs, leather, or jewelry, and you can brush up your Egyptian shopping and bargaining skills with help from a local guide. After making your purchases, stroll the colorful, tightly-packed stalls piled high with vegetables, aromatic spices, and handicrafts from around the country.
Walk to the Mosque and Madrassa of Sultan Hassan, and learn the tumultuous history of Sultan Hassan, who took the throne at 13 years old, then was assassinated before his Mamluk-style mosque was completed. Follow a stone passageway to an enormous, arcaded courtyard, and find the towering brass doors that lead to the mausoleum. This tour concludes with a return transfer to your hotel in Cairo or Giza.
