Get acquainted with up-and-coming Montenegro by taking this full-day trip with a guide to Kotor, a red-tile-roofed medieval town situated in a gulf where the sea and rocky mountains meet. Leaving Dubrovnik, stop at a viewpoint to get an incredible photo opportunity of the Stari Grad, or Old Town. Then enjoy the southern Dalmatian coastline and the Montenegrin countryside on the drive down in the comfortable air-conditioned vehicle. As you drive south, learn about the history and culture of Montenegro from your local guide.
After an hour, cross the border into Montenegro as the bus navigates around the Bay of Kotor passing small seaside villages along the way. After arriving in Kotor, stroll the streets on your own. Consider the trek up to to the Castle of San Giovanni but also consider it is 1,350 feet (411 meters) up. The view might make it all worth it.
For something less strenuous, duck inside Saint Tryphon’s Cathedral which dates back to the 12th century. Later, stop for lunch (own expense) and try the local seafood or whatever is in season and fresh. After lunch, consider stopping by the nearby medieval village of Perast, which is just up the Bay of Kotor.
After a short car ferry ride back across the bay, return to Dubrovnik, where your trip ends with a hotel drop-off.
