The incredible Yangmingshan National Park lies within Taipei city's limits and takes only an hour to reach by private transportation. • Upon arrival at the park, hike to the first stop at Qingtiangang, a lava terrace formed when the lava from Mt. Zhugao (竹篙山) flowed North after its eruption. • The area was once used as pasture for grazing cattle during the Japanese colonial period. Today, one can still find a few cattle chewing the grass on the massive green grassland. • Next, head to Xiaoyoukeng by taking shuttle bus, situated about 805 meters above sea level. • This is one of the best places to feel post-volcanic activity under the feet. • Stop for photos, smell the sense of sulfur, and see fumaroles, sulfur crystals, hot springs and spectacular 'landslide terrain' in the region. • Enjoy views of the entire mountainous landscape nearby, including the highest peak of Taipei, Mt.
