Pickup from Hotel/Residence in Varanasi and drive to Vindhyachal , one of the constituent towns of the Mirzapur .
Vindhyachal is situated in the middle of the two holy cities- Allahabad and Varanasi on the bank ofRiver Ganges in the Mirzapur district. The city is dedicated to Goddess Vindhyavasini and is one of the renowned Shaktipeethas of the country and an important religious and pilgrim centre.
It is believed that Goddess Durga had established herself here after killing the demon king Mahishasura. Thus, Goddess Durga is also known by the name of Vindhyavasini in this area .There are many other temples and water springs (locally known as Kunds) in the vicinity of the town.
Vindhyavasini, Ashtabhuja and Kali Khoh are three main Shakti temples here, located on the three corners of Vindhya Parvat also known as Saktipeeths. The divine trinity is worshipped here as Ma Laxmi, Ma Kali and Ma Saraswati. Bhairav temples are located around the city centre to ward off evil effects, viz., Anand Bhairav on the east, Sidhanath on the west, KapalBhairav on the south & RudraBhairav on the north side.
‘Kajali’ the local folk music is dedicated to Ma Vindhyavasini. All Kajali singers from north India come here to celebrate Kajali Mahotsava (Festival). People come here to seek blessings from goddess of power.
Tantriks also visit this place for Tantrasadhana (Meditation).
Later visit Sitakund - one of the popular attractions at Vindhyachal. It is said that when Sri Rama, Sita and Lakshmana were returning home after their exile, Sita became very thirsty at this place. Lakshmana pierced an arrow and immediately a fountain of water came out. In memory of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Goddess Durga a temple was constructed.
One can quench his/her thirst here at the Sitakund. After climbing 48 steps to the SitaKund the track leads to another low hillock, where the Ashtabhuja Temple is situated Apart from its Mythological relevance, Vindhyachal is known for its beautiful natural surroundings
