When you arrive at Cairo International Airport, meet your friendly representative, and let them escort you through the customs, visa and luggage procedures to your waiting Egyptologist guide and private, air-conditioned minivan.
Greet your guide and then gaze out over Cairo as you journey to the Giza Plateau, site of the world-famous pyramids. On arrival, take a tour and ogle the Great Pyramid of Cheops, the last remaining of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World. Absorb this architectural marvel, built around 4,600 years ago, and hear how it was constructed from 2.3 million gigantic stone blocks.
Take in the pyramids of Chephren and Mycerinus and three smaller Queens’ Pyramids, and then move to a high point to capture panoramic photos of the tombs.
Then, after a camel ride, head down the plateau to the Great Sphinx. View the huge, human-headed statue, carved from a single limestone ridge, and visit the Valley Temple, where it’s believed the mummification of the pharaoh Chephren took place.
Having explored here, visit a local restaurant overlooking the plateau and admire views of the pyramids as you savor an Egyptian lunch.
Your layover tour then ends with a drive back to Cairo airport in time for your flight.
