After early-morning pickup from your Melbourne hotel, leave the city for the legendary Great Ocean Road and its beautiful beaches, coastal vistas, beachfront towns, and national parks filled with native wildlife.
The first stop is Bells Beach, a world-renowned surf spot. Continue to the Split Point Lighthouse, where the Indian and Pacific Oceans meet. Stop at Apollo Bay for lunch (own expense) as you admire the views from this lovely seaside town.
Next, head into the fern-rich rain forest and see if you can spot any wild koalas in the eucalyptus trees. You may be able to hand-feed parrots in this area as well.
A highlight of this trip is the UNESCO-listed Twelve Apostles. Marvel at these massive rock formations, and head down the Gibson Steps to the beach for another perspective. Optionally take a short scenic helicopter flight over the landmark (own expense) before returning to your Melbourne hotel.
