Your first destination of the excurision is Pitigliano, 2 hours 25 minutes away from the port. This village is practically carved out of "Tufaceous" rock, sits upon one of the suggestive tuff spurs, conferring a unique beauty to the town landscape. Pitigliano makes up part of an area called "borghi del tufo" — towns carved of tuff stone.
Pitigliano is best known for its nickname “Little Jerusalem” thanks to the position close to Rome, where escaping Jews could find refuge. Pitigliano, as early as the 14th century, became an important haven for the Jews, and their numbers grews so much so that they built a Temple in 1598. After this experience, you will go to a nice vinery for wine tasting. Your last stop is Sovana. Sovana is tiny but tucked within its compact historic center is a lot of charm and atmosphere. It is authentic, still maintaining its Old World structure, making it a delightful place to visit and wander, to see what it was like centuries ago. After visiting Sovana, you will spend an hour in a fantastic thermal site of saturnia where you can immerse yourself in the healing waters of the thermal baths.
