Make your own way to the private home in the Old Baneshwor neighborhood of Kathmandu, which is located about 20 minutes from central Kathmandu. Meet your hosts for your cooking class; the mother-daughter team are comprised of a college student and homemaker in a their family's home. During the class, you'll follow family recipes from the grandmother, who cooked for the king of Nepal. Learn to prepare two to three traditional dishes as you chat with your hosts about Nepal's culinary traditions, heritage, and daily life. You might make classic dishes such as momo (dumplings) and dal bhat (lentils with rice), and a vegetable dish like sauteed greens, badam bhatmas sadeko (marinated peanuts and soy beans), mixed achar (pickled and spiced vegetables), dried pea masala, or tarkari (mixed vegetable curry). Meat dishes might feature Nepali chicken curry or choyla (marinated red meat in a spicy onion-tomato sauce).   When the dishes are ready, sit at the family table to enjoy the meal with your hosts. After your meal, you can take home some recipes along with a memorable experience of Nepal.
