Greet your guide outside the Pere Lachaise Cemetery, and set off to explore this 110-acre (44-hectare) burial ground, Paris’ most celebrated, and home to about 70,000 ornate tombs.
Your route follows a largely downhill walk through the cemetery, and you take useful shortcuts to cover the most interesting spots in less time. As it’s a small-group tour, your guide may be able to customize the route to accommodate individual requests.
As you explore the tree-lined avenues, hear tales of the cemetery’s history and the illustrious and often tragic figures buried here. See graves such as those of Edith Piaf, Oscar Wilde, Frédéric Chopin, and Jim Morrison; and view the tombs of historical figures such as the medieval lovers Heloise and Abelard, plus Moliere, Gertrude Stein, and many more.
Your tour finishes at Porte du Repos, near local metro stops and a taxi stand.
