The PADI Open Water Diver course consists of three main phases. The first is knowledge development, which covers everything you need to know about basic techniques, terminology and scuba diving safety procedures. Second are confined water dives, which consist of training sessions conducted in a pool or in pool-like conditions. They give you the opportunity to get used to the equipment you will be using and to practice basic diving skills and techniques to ensure your safety. Third, dives in the natural environment. It's about making your first dives in the ocean! During four dives, you will perform various skills underwater and on the surface to ensure that you are a safe and competent diver. Typically, the training portion only takes up the first portion of the dive, which means you'll spend much of your time diving with your instructor and exploring the underwater world. As soon as your open water training dives are validated by your instructor, you will be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver! This means you will be allowed to rent scuba gear and dive anywhere in the world down to 18 meters for life!
