Oxford Private Walking Tour

Wonderful three hour private tour for seven with Elliot. Very knowledgeable and fun. Able to focus tour on Lewis, Tolkien and Newman. Highly recommend!

Elliot was an outstanding guide for our tour of Oxford — genuinely one of the best we've had. He explained the university's unique college system clearly, which helped us understand how Oxford actually works before we began the tour. He took us to exactly the sites we'd hoped to see: the Weston and Bodleian Libraries, Magdalen College, and Christ Church Cathedral and brought them all to life for us with stories of historical events and personal experiences that made the tour very memorable. Along the way he also pointed out some local spots we wouldn't have found on our own, like Blackwell's Bookstore and the Covered Market. Elliot's knowledge of Oxford's history and academic culture was impressive, but what made the tour special was how engaging and charming he was throughout — he made the whole experience interesting from start to finish. Highly recommend him to anyone visiting Oxford.

It was great! Elliot, our guide, was amazing! He was intelligent, informative, and friendly. He spoke clearly and kept it all interesting, even for the non/history buffs in our group. His backstories were fascinating and added more interest to everything he talked about. Would highly recommend him and the tour!

We had a fabulous two-hour private walking tour of Oxford with Eloise the archaeologist, and we can’t recommend her highly enough. Eloise is also a recent Oxford graduate, which added such a wonderful dimension to the experience. In addition to learning about Oxford’s magnificent buildings and centuries of history, we loved hearing her stories about what student life at Oxford is actually like. Eloise was incredibly knowledgeable—she knew her dates, had fascinating stories to share, and brought Oxford’s history to life in a way that was both informative and entertaining. She had also taken the time to consider some of the interests and requests we had shared in advance and incorporated additional stories and details especially for us. Her energy and enthusiasm were delightful, and she was simply a pleasure to spend two hours with. We were amazed by how much we were able to see and learn in just two hours. Oxford is filled with extraordinary buildings, traditions, and historical details that would be very easy to walk right past without understanding their significance. Unless you are visiting with someone who already knows Oxford extremely well, I think taking a guided tour is an absolute must. If you are deciding between a group tour and a private tour, I would highly recommend the private option if you have the opportunity. It was just my husband and me with Eloise, which allowed us to ask questions, linger over things that interested us, and navigate a very busy Oxford much more easily. We got so much more out of our visit because of it. Our tour with Eloise the archaeologist was one of the highlights of our time in Oxford and an excellent way to experience this remarkable city.
