Otranto (known as the City of Martyrs) our guide will visit the Norman Cathedral of the Annunciation (containing the remains of 800 martyrs who lost their lives during the 1480 massacre) where you can see the beautiful mosaic floor of 1163 (one of the oldest in Europe). The route continues with a visit to the Aragonese Castle, and then to the Byzantine church of San Pietro full of medieval frescoes. Finally a walk along the enchanting ramparts. Otranto was the setting of the first great Gothic novel of European literature, entitled "The Otranto Castle" by Horace Walpole (18th century).
You can discover the magic of an ancient village, located on the Adriatic coast of Salento, where you can stroll through the narrow streets of the center, full of local artisan shops and admire the crystal clear sea with a sandy bottom. The martyrs of Otranto were sanctified on May 12, 2013 and have been called "The 800 masters of the faith". Light lunch included
