The Nizwa Fort is a 17th century castle inside the city of Nizwa, one of the country
oldest cities and known as the Pearl of Islam. As well as its historical significance it does also act as a natural gateway to some of the highest and most majestic
mountains, is a great vantage point for viewing of Hajar Mountains and surrounding town.
Jabreen Castle ("the most beautiful historic castle in the whole of Oman "according to guidebooks) was built in the late 17th century.
It used to serve at the same time as a military fort, as a school and as the place of
residence of the sovereign of Oman, at the time where Jabreen was the capital city of
Oman. The decorated windows and wooden balconies are an authentic expression of
Omani craftsmanship.
