Around 9:30am, board an air-conditioned vehicle at your Goreme hotel and begin your journey to the heart of Cappadocia’s striking landscape. Your first stop is Avanos, an ancient town famed for its production of earthenware pottery, where you’ll observe a pottery demonstration and learn of Avanos’ thriving ceramic industry.
Then, continue to Çavusin to explore one of Turkey’s oldest settlements: the beautifully preserved paintings of the 5th-century Church of St. John the Baptist are one of Çavusin’s top attractions.
Proceed to the spectacular lunar landscapes of Devrent Valley, where rocks shaped like camels, snakes, worshippers, and dancers abound. Capture these unique formations on camera before you arrive at Goreme Open Air Museum, a UNESCO-listed site considered the area’s crowning glory.
Discover churches and monasteries expertly carved into rock faces and admire original frescoes that date back to the 5th century. Having explored thoroughly, you’ll head to Pasabag Valley, where rock formations known as ‘fairy chimneys’ litter the landscape. These unique features are reminiscent of surrealist paintings and it is possible to ascend to the summit of one modified structure.
Your penultimate stop is Uchisar Castle, the highest point in Cappadocia. From this elevated vantage point, the views are simply spectacular.
Conclude your tour with a visit to a winery in Ürgup, where you’ll sample local wines before drop-off at your Goreme hotel.
