Museums of South Goa with guide and lunch

Summary

9 AM Chitra Goa Museum Chitra is an ethnographical museum and displays the lifestyle of people, their indigenous methods, their craftsmanship and their art and folklore. The original 200 privately collected items have grown to more than 4000 objects on display. The Museum houses a wide range of exhibits depicting the material culture of Goa before the electricity era. 11 AM  Bigfoot Cross Museum Bigfoot Cross Museum is a miniature Goan village set up to recreate the rural life of old days. It is privately run by an artist called Maendra Jocelino Araujo Alvares. The open-air museum re-creates Goan rural life as it was a hundred years ago.  In this model village, one can also see different miniature houses that showcase traditional occupation and social classes such as fishermen, Goan artisans, a Music school known as Escola da Musica, farmers, liquors shops, the village market, and a feni distillery. A highlight here is the giant 14-meter sculpture of Sant Mirabai carved in 30 days which is also the longest laterite sculpture in India. Traditional Goan Lunch 130 PM  Christian Art Museum The Museum of Christian Art is the only one of its kind in Asia. A guided tour here brings alive the richness of Indo-Portuguese Christian Art from Goa. Every object displayed in the museum reflects the immense wealth of the Churches of Goa. An interesting aspect of the collection is that many were made by local Hindu artists! During the Portuguese times, the demand for the religious artwork was extremely high and the exhibits could not be shipped from Portugal. To make up for the demand,  Hindu artists were contracted to complete the religious artworks. 230 PM  Museum of Archeological Survey of India Built in 1964, the ASI Museum is housed in the convent portion of the church of St. Francis of Assisi. The collection of exhibits range from prehistoric and early historic period to the late mediaeval period. Our special guide will bring alive the significance of the collection including the display of the portrait paintings of governors and viceroys, wooden sculptures, pillars, capitals, postal stamps and other objects from the Portuguese period in Goa. 430PM Drop back to Hotel
