The Gulag History Museum was established in 2001 by a renowned historian, writer of sociopolitical literature and public figure – Anton Antonov-Ovseyenko.
On this tour you will visit the main exposition of the Museum and receive key information about the system of correctional labor camps, known as GULAG. You'll be able to trace the development of the Gulag from the prerequisites of its formation in 1930s to its liquidation in 1950s; you'll learn about the worst consequences of the state's repressive policy. The main goal of the museum is to highlight this dark page of the Russian history, in order not to let new generations forget it.
A special attention will be paid to expeditionary findings made during our times on the sites of former camps in different regions of the USSR.
