Why take this tour?

Discover the incredible neighbourhood of Montmartre in the 18th arrondissement, renowned for its architecture, beautiful photo stops and for being the cultural heart of Paris!

On this immersive walking tour narrated by a local historian, we’ll take you off the beaten track and show us the real face of Montmartre. You will walk through the iconic Sacre Coeur, explore La Maison Rose, stroll along with the Rue Saint Vincent, and ultimately finish in front of the Espace Dalí.

We'll visit Paris' oldest church Saint Pierre, and learn about Montmartre's bohemian reputation. We’ll unravel the historical origins of this neighbourhood to understand how it evolved from a place of worship to a mecca of modern art and culture.

Finish off this cultural adventure and marvel at this truly magnificent architectural neighbourhood with panoramic views all over Paris.

The tour starts at the entry gates of Montmartre, at the Place St Pierre. As we walk up towards the Basilique Sacré Coeur, Ed and Alice will explore the Roman origins of this neighbourhood, and how it has evolved over time.

Those of you that make it to the summit of Montmartre will be rewarded with the best view in all of Paris. We'll stop to catch our breath and point out some iconic Parisian landmarks.

Next, we'll turn around for a closer look at the Basilique Sacré Coeur. We'll learn about the connection between this marvellous church and Montmartre's rebellious past.

Just around the corner sits St Pierre, Paris's oldest church. Whilst it sits in the shadows of the basilica and is often overlooked, St Pierre is arguably the most important church in France. Together, we'll discover why.

We'll meander down the nostalgic, winding, cobbled roads of Montmartre village and immerse ourselves in its artistic past. This is where we'll leave the tourist path and venture into a quieter, lesser known part of Montmartre.

Montmartre also has a darker side, and we'll explore it together as we navigate the narrow alleys of its underbelly. We'll learn more about the seedier side of Montmartre, visit Paris' oldest cabaret and hear about the gangs that used to operate here.

Together, we'll stumble upon Paris' oldest vineyard and learn about the annual "Fete des Vendanges", where you'll be able to taste the wine produced here. You'll be as surprised as we were to discover this tranquil oasis in the middle of such a bustling & vibrant city.

No trip to Montmartre is complete without a visit to Place Dalida. We'll learn all about the tragic life of Dalida, the Montmartre resident who sold over 300 million albums! This is also where we get the best photo of Montmartre, so get you cameras ready..

Speaking of photos, we'll also stop at Paris' most Instagrammed spot, La Maison Rose. It's a gorgeous pink house that has inspired so many artists and photographers including Maurice Utrillo.

Finally, as the podcast tour comes to an end, you'll walk through Dali's life story at the Dali Museum, and absorb the artistic side of Montmartre.

The Vidi Guides experience is enriched with on-screen photos and videos. We also point out where to take the perfect Instagram photos during the tour, and include recommendations for food, drinks and local attractions. Don't worry, none of our recommendations are sponsored - they are simply favourites of the locals who helped craft the experience.

About operator:

Too many people visit places without discovering anything about them. And we can’t let that happen.

We believe that the true essence of travelling lies in the joy of discovering the authentic face of cities, neighbourhood and cultural sites, and unlocking the many tales they hold.

With that spirit in our hearts, we started out in search of these stories hidden in the nooks and corners of Paris, London, Cambridge and Oxford's most iconic spots. We then dived into each place’s culture, history, and traditions by collaborating with historians, famous architects, photographers, street artists, and many more. What we ended up finding was a treasure trove of stories that we have meticulously tied together just for you!

But how to deliver this information? We didn’t want to create another Wikipedia, with people looking at their phones instead of the sites. And let’s face it, audioguides and headsets belong to the 20th century.. This is why we’ve created our own storytelling format. Podcast-style tours, enriched with photos and videos, that keep you wanting more.

Our goal is to create a form of travel that will make you truly discover the places you visit.
