Mongolian Horse Trek

Summary

From the time you are met at the airport you will be fully escorted by your knowledgeable guide as you explore Zavkhan, one of Mongolia's least-visited regions. Begin with a group dinner and briefing in the capital, Ulaanbaatar, before heading west across the steppe in 4WD vehicles for the first three days, on the Great Mongolian Road Trip. Visit Karakorum, the ancient capital of the Mongolian empire, Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur (The Great White Lake), and continue on to Tosontsengel where you will meet your horse. Spend the next 10 days riding through steppe, forested valleys, sand dunes and mountains, and getting to know your horse. You are very unlikely to encounter any foreigners here. Tourism really hasn't made it to Zavkhan. For those who do make the effort, beautiful untouched landscapes, fascinating local culture, and perfect riding country awaits. If you have ever dreamed of galloping across the open steppe with the wind in your hair, this is the place to live that dream. During this trek you will enjoy perfect riding country – everything from tricky forest trails to wide open steppe ideal for a faster pace, and not a fence or gate to be seen (9-10 days riding). If you are an experienced rider, you will love the local horses. If you are not a rider, but an adventurous traveler who wants to experience Mongolia by horse, then this trip is also suitable for you.
