In the spring (April-June), the Tone River provides continuous Class III to IV rapids for a half-day tour with a guide. Raft through the picturesque township of Minakami, known for its rich history and hot springs, and learn about the history and culture of this Japanese mountain town while soaking up the excitement of the rapids.
In the summer months (July-October), the river is more tame, with mellow Class I to II rapids. At this time of the year, a lot of time is spent out of the boat, swimming through the crystal-clear pools and jumping from the riverside cliffs. The cool water is a refreshing reprieve from the heat of summer.
After your tour, kick back and have lunch at the riverside deck (lunch is an add-on option; not included in tour price). Meet up with your guide and teammates, and look back at your great day on the river. Before you leave, your guide can recommend other things to do in the area such as soaking in the hot springs, eating at one of the local mountain restaurants, or hiking in one of the two national parks in Minakami.
