Micil Whiskey Experience 1 - Whiskey & Poitín

From€25
1 hour
Galway, Ireland

Full description

Our whiskey & poitín experience is a deep dive into the history of Irish whiskey, beginning back when whiskey and poitín were essentially the same spirit, separated only by the buying of a licence. You’ll discover the real story of our whiskey and how it’s made, and learn all about brewing, distilling, mash bills, cask finishes and maturation. You’ll hear about our own illicit 170-year-old family distilling tradition, and how we make our whiskey here at our distillery today. The experience takes place in the heart of our working distillery and includes three tastings – two independent whiskey bottlings by us and a very special Heritage Edition poitín made with peated barley and oats. It’s a fun, interactive experience that’s a must-do for all whiskey lovers.

Very nice introduction to local spirits

Really good whiskey/poitin tasting and distillery viewing. Three servings of whiskey and poitin, plus a taste of Irish cream.

Amazing Experience!!

Our tasting at Micil Distillery was amazing. Marcus and Ross were friendly, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience enjoyable. Their whiskey, poitín, and gin were all fantastic, and we genuinely loved every part of the tasting.

Fab! The perfect way to spend an hour!

Such a lovely relaxed hour with family (adult aged!!!) trying all the various drinks and learning from Marcus our brilliant guide!! Fabulous! Really enjoyed it - as well as the couple of “bookend” pints in Oslo’s. It may be the poitín talking, but I love Ireland!!! 🍀

Only in English

Although it was sold as being in Italian, there is no trace of the Italian language or translations of any kind. The distillery is a room visible from a balcony and everything takes place at a counter where they explain to you what you are about to taste in English

Fun tasting experience

Great tasting experience with fun and knowledgeable hosts. Very small distillery but lovely bar and great way to set it up so that the process can be seen from above.
