Less crowded than the Badaling segment of the wall, the restored Mutianyu stretch dates to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and is considered one of the most scenic and less crowded sections. Snaking along mountain ridges and notable for its densely spaced watch towers, it boasts crenelated parapets on both sides—a rarity on other parts of the wall. On arrival, choose a round-trip cable car up to and down from the ramparts, or a cable car ride up and descent by toboggan—riding a toboggan-style cart down the hillside (All-inclusive package). Then, take a guided or independent walk along the battlements (depending on option selected). Stride along the ramparts, admiring the watchtowers and stunning mountain views.
