Travel in a shared vehicle about 3.5 miles (5.5 km) to reach La Fortuna Waterfall — a magnificent cascade fed by the Arenal River. The surrounding rainforest and tributaries of Arenal-Monteverde play an important role in area conservation and deliver clean drinking water to local communities.
The sight of the white jet of water streaming out of the lush jungle and falling from a height of about 230 feet (70 meters) is one of Arenal’s chief natural attractions. Watch from an observation deck or, if you like, climb down a steep and rocky 985-foot (300-meter) trail to reach the bottom of the falls. Here, you can get an up-close look at the splash zone and take a refreshing swim in the river.
